Six may face charges over tycoon’s wife secret burial

Four medical staff at a city hospital, a military doctor and a brother of the billionaire lawyer Samuel Ritho maybe prosecuted over the “disappearance” of his wife’s body at Mater Hospital.

Investigations have been completed and the case file forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions for action, police sources said.

The billionaire’s wife, Mrs Gladys Luseno Ritho’s body was taken away from the hospital in controversial circumstances and secretly buried in Murang’atwo months ago .

A court is yet to issue an exhumation order sought by a section of the family in the dispute.

Lawyer’s assets

The family has been steeped in a feud concerning the administration of the lawyer’s assets estimated to be worth well above Sh3 billion and which are spread locally and overseas.

A police source said the medical staff include a nurse, morgue attendant and two doctors at the hospital, who were questioned over the documents that were used to have the body released from the hospital.

On February 22, the prominent lawyer’s relatives reportedly presented suspected forged documents that were used to procure the body.

The  registrar of Births and Deaths was also questioned during the probe.

The family feud, according to confidential sources, has been clouding the decision as to where Mrs Rithoshould be laid to rest.

A judge handling the case has been  told that the Luseno family, from where Mrs Ritho came, wished to be introduced as an “interested party” in the litigation.

Mrs Ritho died at the Mater Hospital where she had been admitted for suspected poisoning.

At the time, a court had granted her the sole administration of her ailing husband’s estate.
