Shots fired as two officers fight over female colleague

A police constable based at the Muthaiga police station in Nairobi has been arrested after he shot at his colleague who is under interdiction.

The two officers are said to have differed over a female colleague based at the Central police station.

The three were at a bar within Ngara when Constable Irungu accused Constable Patrick Thuranira of having an affair with their colleague, Constable Sara Gatonye.

CHARGED WITH MURDER

Const Irungu then fired at his colleague but the bullet missed him.

Police said Constable Thuranira was not armed since he is under interdiction.

He had been charged in court for the murder of two Egerton University students at the Globe Cinema roundabout last year.

HELB FOLLOW UP

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) had conducted investigations and found that the officer had shot the two students -Dennis Ongwae Magomere and Felix Ngaywa Nyagena –on November 7, 2014 at the Globe Cinema roundabout and claimed that they were found while mugging pedestrians.

It was, however, established that the two had travelled from Njoro Campus to Nairobi to follow up on their Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) loans on the day they were killed.
