Shame as officials use papers to do substitutions in KPL match – PHOTOS

The Kenyan Premier League has faulted AFC Leopards for the mishap that resulted in match officials using paper instead of an electronic board to do substitutions.

Leopards were the home team in the league game against Ulinzi Stars at the Machakos County Stadium on Wednesday.

That match ended goalless, but most of the focus was on the shameful incident that drew the ridicule and wrath from local football fans on social media.

The Kenyan Premier League has however absolved itself from blame, with chief executive Jack Oguda insisting it is the home team with the responsibility of equipping match officials.

Mr Oguda quoted rule 3.5 of match arrangements which in sub section a) states that; “The home club is responsible for ensuring the field and field equipment are in reasonable condition for the match. The home club must install suitable goal nets and provide at least two footballs suitable for use in the match.”

This incident has meanwhile already attracted international scrutiny, with the BBC’s Abdinoor Aden reporting that a section of local fans are suggesting it wast a good show for Kenya as it prepares to host the Africa Nations Championship next year.
