Another man lands Sh81.2m SportPesa jackpot
Alfred Madanji’s household was thrown into celebration on Saturday night after the family’s head won a record Sh81,268,545 in the SportPesa Mid-Week jackpot for last week.
Madanji, a married real estate agent with four children, said it was a dream come true for his family, adding that his great love for football has paid off handsomely.
“I come from a family that loves and enjoys football. My cousin Micah Mwai played for AFC Leopards and another one, Joseph Were also played for the team when it was still referred to as Abaluhya Football Club, as a goalkeeper many years ago,” said the latest millionaire in town.
Madanji has broken a four-month jackpot Mid-Week jackpot winner drought. The last person to win the SportPesa mid-week jackpot was Geoffrey Chepkwony who got Sh 12,646,353 on December 1, last year.
To win this jackpot, gamers have to correctly predict the outcome of 13 games in the Mid-week Jackpot. It is the second time within a week that a record payout has been handed out by SportPesa.
MEGA JACKPOT
Last week, 28-year old Samuel Abisai became the first Kenyan to win the SportPesa Mega Jackpot, getting a record payout of Sh221,331,602.
The Mega Jackpot is won when a gamer predicts outcomes of 17 select games correctly. Prior to Madanji’s win, the highest Mid-week Jackpot amount won was Sh36,715,204 in October 2016 by two gamers: Bungoma businessman Christostim Munoko and a Nairobi car salesman Kevin Muhia.
SportPesa assistant marketing manager in charge of PR Esther Kang’ethe congratulated the winner and urged clients to bet responsibly.
“We appreciate all the support we have gotten from the public so far since our inception in 2014. It is through your engagement with us that we have been able to support various sports disciplines in this country and we say a big thank you for your efforts,” she said.

INSTANT PAYOUT
Speaking during his grand homecoming in Kakamega on Saturday, Mega Jackpot winner Abisai, who was unveiled last Tuesday, also urged gaming enthusiasts to play responsibly. He has pledged to set up a football academy in Kakamega with part of his winnings.
Madanji on his part thanked SportPesa for its integrity adding that he appreciates the instant payouts that all winners get.
“Once you win, the money is promptly transferred to your account which is one of the best things about this company,” he said.
He plans to build his family a home as well as set up his own rental units for a sustainable income.
The latest winner will go home with all his money as the proposed 50 per cent tax on gaming companies does not apply to winnings and even so, it is yet to be implemented.
