This is how SGR phase 2 will look like – PHOTOS


Construction of the 120km Nairobi-Naivasha standard gauge railway is on course after Kenya secured Sh155.5 billion from China’s Exim Bank.

The contracted builder, China Road and Bridge Construction, will move on site between this month.

This is part of the 490km phase 2 stretch from Nairobi to Malaba via Kisumu, which is divided into three sub-phases.

Phase 2A will cover the 120km from Nairobi to Naivasha while phase 2B will entail works on the 262km stretch between Naivasha to Kisumu via Narok, Bomet and Nyamira.

The final section will be phase 2C will cover 107km Kisumu to Malaba via Yala and Mumias.

The Mombasa to Nairobi line was commissioned by President Uhuru Kenyatta who took an inaugural ride aboard the Madaraka Express train from Mombasa to Nairobi on May 31, 2017.

It was built at a cost of Sh327 billion.
