A man who had pleaded guilty to unlawfully importing 440,000 tablets of a sex-enhancing drug, on Thursday changed his plea and denied the charge.

Mr Joshua Mutemi Maithya had pleaded guilty to importing the 440,000 Vegas 100 tablets without a permit from the Kenya Pharmacy and Poisons Board (KPPB) before Makadara Senior Resident Magistrate Evelyn Nyongesa.

Ms Nyongesa had delayed sentencing Maithya to allow police to adduce all the drugs and a report from the Pharmacy Board before the court yesterday.

The prosecution had parked three pick up trucks outside the court with 22 cartons of the drugs which had been in custody of the regulatory agency as investigations went on.

Police prosecutor George Okello had assembled six witnesses; five officials from the Board and the Investigating Officers from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) where the drugs were intercepted on Tuesday last week on delivery from India.
