Judges abandon Kisumu Law Court for football match in Nairobi

Business at the Kisumu Law Courts was on Thursday paralysed after judges and magistrates travelled to Nairobi to bid farewell to Chief Justice Willy Mutunga whose tenure ends next week.

There were no proceedings at the courts on Thursday with all the judges and magistrates reported to have made the journey to Nairobi.

During their excursion in the capital, the judges and magistrates will also participate in the annual Judiciary sports tournament to be held at the Utalii College on Saturday.

MORALE BOOSTER

Some of the events that they will compete in are football, volleyball, athletics and netball.

Kisumu Principal magistrate, Thomas Obutu, told Nairobi News that the games seeks to boost the morale and motivation of the Judiciary officials.

“Everybody in the judiciary, irrespective of their ranks, are supposed to participate in the tournament which will also be a networking event,” the magistrate said.

he added that the outgoing Chief Justice Dr Willy Mutunga, who retires on June 16, will also participate in the sports tournament and later attend a farewell cocktail dinner in his honour.
