Senator Linturi maintains his innocence in rape case

Meru Senator Mithika Linturi has dared his accuser to a battle royale in the corridors of justice in relation to a case of a sexual offense filed against him by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

He made the declaration while addressing the media at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi after a pre-trial mention of the attempted rape case,  said he is eager to meet his accuser in court.

The politician also asked the DPP to expedite the case so as it would not hamper his plans ahead of the 2022 general elections.

“I appeal to the Director of Public Prosecutions to supply the evidence in this matter. I don’t wish for any more adjournment. I want to see the lady I’m accused of touching and attempting to rape,” he declared.

The controversial politician also urged the media to provide enough coverage of the rape case, while insisting the events are political and he is itching to clear his name nonetheless.

He also asked the prosecution to release his Sh200,00o reportedly in possession of the complainant.

Through his lawyer Muthomi Thiankolu, Linturi, who is never far from controversy, explained that the State has been holding his cash for more than a year.

“Your honour I am making an application to have the prosecution release Sh200,000 which is in their possession for the last one year, the said money belongs to my client and was recovered from the complainant by the police,” Linturi’s lawyer stated.

The seasoned politician is accused of attempting to rape the woman at Maiyan Villas Hotel in Nanyuki.

He also faces another count of indecently touching the woman without her consent.

He is out on a cash bail of Ksh200,000.

The Magistrate has ordered the matter to be mentioned after two weeks to confirm the supply of all the documents to the defence.
