Second member of city gang that shot officer is killed

Another member of a gang that killed a police officer in Nairobi’s Lunga Lunga on Tuesday was shot dead as he tried to move house.

Nairobi police boss Japheth Koome said the public alerted police at around 3pm on Thursday that Mr Anthony Wanjala was shifting from his Kayaba slums dwelling and officers rushed to the place and shot him dead.

They recovered a home-made pistol, a camera, and a mobile phone.

Investigations revealed that his colleague, who killed the policeman and injured two others before he was shot dead two days earlier, had been monitoring the police’s movements through a radio stolen from an officer earlier.

Police said Mr Issa Njoroge Muriu last month attacked and robbed an AP officer of the radio in Langata which he would occasionally switch on.

On Tuesday evening, the stolen radio’s signals were detected at Lunga Lunga. Officers from the Flying Squad and Industrial Area police station were deployed.

Mr Muriu, a Somali-trained sharp shooter, ambushed them and shot Constable Paul Sirma in the head, killing him instantly.
