Second loss for Kenya at FIVB World Cup

Kenya lost her second match at the ongoing FIVB World Cup going down 3-0 (28-26, 26-24, 25-17 ) to the Dominican Republic at the Yoyogi National Stadium gymnasium on Sunday.

In the closely contested match, Kenya started strongly in the opening two sets, fighting to level scores 24-24 at match point, only for the Latin Americans to conjure out a crucial advantage on both occasions.

“We will work on how to maintain or secure an advantage during crucial moments in our next training session,” a visibly disappointed Kenya coach David Lung’aho said after wards.

LACK OF EXPERIENCE

Dominican’s Gina Altagracia Mambru Casilla emerged top scorer in this match with 17 points, two more than that of Kenya’s Mercy Moim.

The Domincans matched Kenya in serves, with the African champions frontline consisting captain Brackides Agala, Everylne Makuto and Wangeci Esther managed a total 20 blocks while Moim and Makuto also contributed their fair share of attacks against Marcos Kweik’s side.

“Kenya is an explosive team of talented players that however lacks experience at this stage, they will continue to improve and I see them dominating here in the coming years,” Kweik said.

The African Queens next match is against tournament favourites Russia at 9am on Monday.
