Schoolgirl assaulted by her teachers over condom drama in class

A 17-year-old class prefect is nursing injuries after she was reportedly assaulted by her teachers over condoms found on her classmates.

Police officers in Tseikuru, Mwingi North, are investigating the case that has led the schoolgirl to stay out of school for two weeks.

Nairobi News can not reveal the name of the school to protect the identity of the minor.

“The child is living with her parent at home. She is out of school due to the bruises and pain she underwent after being beaten,” said a report filed by the Child Wellbeing Program sponsored by World Vision.

Area OCPD Mr Mohammed Ali has confirmed the incident and said officers are investigating the matter.

CONDOM IN WALLET

The girl, a form two student, was summoned to the staff room on May 19 after a teacher caught a boy in her class with a condom in his wallet.

“I was asked to call all the boys into the staff room. The teachers conducted a search and found that two more boys had condoms in their wallets,” she narrated.

The boys then ran away from school for fear of punishment. The following day, May 20, the girl was again summoned to the staff room by two teachers.

“They insisted that I knew (about the incident) and I was pretending. One teacher (name withheld) grabbed my hand and whipped me severely. I started crying, she let me go.”

“Another teacher (name withheld) took over, he thrashed me until the cane splintered. He held me by the neck and forced me to lie on the floor. He flogged my back and behind. My hand started bleeding, strength failed me,” she narrated.

A medical report signed by a medical officer at the Tseikuru District Hospital confirms that she indeed was beaten.

BRUISES

“Black marks noted on the buttocks and the back, healed bruises noted on the right hand,” indicates the report.

The region’s District Education Officer, Mr Justus Ngovi on Saturday confirmed the incident.

He said: “I am waiting a report from the teacher so that I can make commitment. I called him to my office and he has since reported to the police.”

He however said due process must be followed in dealing with the matter.

“I am not shielding anyone, but due process must be followed,” he said.

During an interview, the school’s board chairperson admitted that the said incident occurred. He however added that the allegations were malicious and were meant to destroy the school’s reputation.

NOT DISCIPLINED

He said the form two class was not disciplined and that the said boys had picked the condoms from dispensers in a nearby hospital.

“I came to learn that some boys take liquor. We cannot accept such cases of indiscipline. I am so bitter,” he said and added that the boys were found sitting on the girl.

He said he would convene a parents meeting at school on the matter.
