School uniform-clad MPs in Uhuru Park rally


A number of opposition legislators clad in school uniform have turned up for an on-going political rally at Uhuru Park that has however failed to stir up public interest.

Reports from the venue indicate that the rally has been poorly attended.

Earlier on Wednesday morning, the MPs, including Chris Wamalwa (Kiminini), Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay women rep) and Irshad Sumra (Embakasi South) posted photos of themselves all dressed up in school uniforms ahead of the rally.

The opposition politicians, under the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord), are holding the rally to address the public on the on-going teachers’ strike among other issues.

At the same, earlier on a consistent power surge around community area threatened to disrupt the rally prompting Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) communications director Phillip Etale to lash out at the Kenya Power company for “disconnecting power”.

“Surely @KenyaPower_care, @KenyaPower how can you disconnect power at Uhuru Park… nonetheless, the rally will go on. You need a competitor,” Etale wrote on Twitter.

He did not substantiate these claims.
