Lawmakers affiliated to the Azimio coalition have dismissed therecent opinion polls whose results suggested Deputy President William Ruto is favorite to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The poll conducted on Thursday by Trends and Insights Africa (TIFA) indicated that Ruto enjoyed an 11 percent lead over Raila.

The poll indicated that if the elections were held today, William Ruto will be the leading candidate at 38 per cent, forcing a run-off between him and his closet challenger Raila Odinga, polled at 27 per cent.

But, Ayub Savula the Lugari lawmaker attributed the results to the early campaigns by the Deputy President.

“The DP started campaigning early, he has done a maximum campaign for ten years and still it is at 38%, we are picking up really fast give us only one week, we are going to beat that, the DP has done the maximum campaign for ten years and still it’s at 38 percent that is very dangerous for him,” Savula said.

“The fact that president Uhuru Kenyatta has not visited the central Kenya officially that’s what solidifies those results, but when he does visit the results will be a totally different thing,” Savula continued.

The vocal lawmaker who recently defected from the Amani National Congress (ANC) to DAP-K, has trained his sights on the Kakamega gubernatorial seat in the August 2022 polls.
