Sauti Sol ‘sura yako’ video hits a million YouTube views

Highflying Kenyan afro-pop band Sauti Sol have achieved another feat – they now have a  second video that has surpassed one million views on YouTube in just four months.

Their award winning song Sura Yako has so far managed 1,005,769 views, following in the footsteps of another of their song Nishike which so far stands at 1,041,759 views.

The Nishike video was uploaded in April last year.

In a country where the most watched music video on YouTube,  Jaguar’s Kigeugeu, has stagnated at 1.3 million views, this is no mean feat. Kigeugeu was uploaded four years ago.

The Sura Yako YouTube views might have been fast-tracked by the group’s appearance on BBC last week, something that expanded their world reach.

Sauti Sol took to social media Wednesday to announce the achievement and thank their fans and handlers.

“We are filled with joy to announce that our second video surpassing 1 Million Views on YouTube is the official video of Sura Yako,” the band wrote on Instagram.

“We thank you for loving the song, listening to it over and over and sharing it. We’ve received your feedback & #LipalaDance recordings from all over the world, we couldn’t repost all but we say a big THANK YOU.”

Sauti Sol is a Kenyan afro-pop band formed in Nairobi by vocalists Bien-Aimé Baraza, Willis Chimano and Delvin Mudigi in 2005.
