Sauti Sol to set up a music academy in Nairobi

Sauti Sol is set to open a music academy in Nairobi before the year ends at a location yet to be disclosed.

The group also intends to launch their recording label that will sign new talent to be mentored by the band.

The band members made the disclosure on Tuesday after they had paid a courtesy call to Nation Media Group (NMG) chief executive Joe Muganda.

The proposed music academy will offer training in sound engineering, song writing and music production.

It will also have a division for talent scouting and overseeing the artistic development of artistes and songwriters.

During their meeting with the NMG chief executive, the band members noted that music is still not being taken seriously in the country.

‘GET A REAL JOB’

Band member Bien Aime narrated how his parents still ask him on when he is going to get a real job.

“We are thankful to Nation Media Group for supporting us throughout our musical journey, and it is through this kind of help that we are able to achieve our goal as a band and artistes to become successful,” said Bien Aime.

“We know it is a tough industry and we are happy that we are able to provide you with that ability to be successful. People of your age and generation are part of our target market and we have to remain relevant,” said Mr. Muganda.

He added: “Things are changing, the way people are consuming media is changing, the digital space is becoming the way to go. We have to continue supporting the youth and we as Nation Media Group we will continue to do our bit.”

NMG was the official media partner of the band’s Live and Die in Afrika nationwide tour that saw the band visiting six counties.

According to their manager Marek Fuchs, the band is planning a pan-African tour that will kick in Dar es Salaam on July 30, followed by stops in Kigali, Kampala, Bujumbura and then to West Africa.
