Sankara plans to open new Nairobi hotel

Sankara is set to open a new hotel in Nairobi, reflecting the group’s confidence in the businesses’ growth potential.

The new property will target business clients, according to managing director of Sankara Hotel Group and the Grove, Rohan Patel.

Plans for the hotel, which is expected to open its doors in the next two years, are still at the conceptual stage.

“Sankara Hotel Group is (also) expecting to conclude work on our new mid-market business lifestyle hotel concept, and expect to debut this with a property in the Nairobi market in 2016/17,” said Mr Patel in an interview.

Sankara Nairobi is a five-star luxury hotel that opened its doors in Westlands in 2010.

As part of the expansion plan, the group is also opening a new steak and seafood restaurant at the Sankara Nairobi by April next year.

“The restaurant will offer a distinct business lunch menu, as well as a more extensive dinner menu. We believe the addressable market for the concept is strong and will continue to develop,” said Mr Patel.

Sankara Group’s new hotel will add to the growing bed space in the city.

With international and local hotel chains lining up to add to the growing demand for space in the country, the hotel will come in after opening of Radisson Blu in early 2015, while Park Inn by Radisson will make its debut late next year.
