Sakaja ‘wanted’ by the police, city lawyer claims

Nairobi-based lawyer Cliff Ombeta on Saturday evening claimed that Nairobi Senator Johnston Sakaja was still wanted man by police officer attached to Kilimani police station.

This comes just hours after Nairobi County police boss Philip Ndolo told Nairobi News that no action will be taken against the senator who was arrested on Friday night while drinking at a popular joint in Kilimani.

Mr Ombeta said that two of his clients are still being held at the station and that the senator was needed in relation to the matter.

Surprisingly, the senator, who is serving his first term, had been released by the police officers from the same station although he later denied claims that he had been arrested even as video of him in police cell circulated on social media.

Mr Ombeta also claimed that efforts to reach the senator on phone had failed to bear fruits as he was not answering his calls.

On Saturday afternoon, police officers stormed the joint where Mr Sakaja was drinking with friends and arrested two women who the lawyer say work only during the day.

Senator Sakaja spent Friday night in the police cells where it is reported he threatened to have all the police officers who had arrested him transferred within 24 hours.

In a video making rounds on social media, the senator is heard saying that he was born in the city and he will deal with the officers.
