How to safeguard your Facebook account after your death
Did you know that you can ‘appoint’ a person to take care of your Facebook account when you die?
Facebook allows users to appoint a trusted person, known as ‘legacy contact’ to take control of a deceased’s account.
The legacy contact is able to share a final message on your behalf or provide information about a memorial service.
The heir can also respond to new friend, update profile picture and cover photo and request the removal of your account.
The legacy contact, however, cannot log in into your account, remove or change past posts, photos and other things shared on your timeline.

The heir also cannot read your messages, remove any of your friends or make new friend requests.
The user can only add a Facebook friend as your legacy contact.
The user, through settings, can opt to have their account deleted permanently when they die.
The option for posthumous care of a Facebook account was launched in 2015 in the US.
To appoint the heir of your account, Go to Settings> legacy contact (https://www.facebook.com/settings?tab=account§ion=account_management&view).
