Why Safaricom has lost its verification badge on Twitter
If you follow Safaricom Limited on Twitter, you’ll notice that their handle no longer has the prized blue tick verification mark. In fact, its handle is totally different.
It was changed from @safaricomltd to @safaricomplc following the company shareholders’ move to change its name from Safaricom Limited to Safaricom PLC.
Good Morning,

Upon effecting the name changes on Twitter, the company lost its verification status as per the Twitter disclaimer that changing the user name would result in the badge being revoked.
Please note: changing your username will result in losing your badge. Questions? File request at http://t.co/zb2ykUyF we’ll get to it ASAP!

Last November, Twitter halted its verification programme following outrage over handing of a blue checkmark to the organiser of a neo-Nazi rally in August in Charlottesville, US.
The suspension is still effective and this means Safaricom PLC’s account may remain unverified for longer since Twitter isn’t accepting verification requests at the moment.
