Ruto’s mother ‘forgives media for taking her son to ICC’

Deputy President William Ruto’s mother says she has forgiven the media for “orchestrating” her son’s tribulations at the International Criminal Court.

Mrs Sarah Cherono Samoei said: “I used to despise journalists. When they came to my home, I sent them away because they took him (Mr Ruto) to The Hague.”

“But I have since forgiven them. Let us forgive each other and live in harmony in this beloved country, which God gave us,” Mrs Samoei added.

She spoke in Kalenjin during a prayer rally for her son and former radio presenter Joshua arap Sang in Eldoret on Saturday.

Mrs Samoei called for peace and reconciliation as Kenya prepares for another General Election in 2017.

“Let us work hard to build our country because even God has forgiven us,” she said.

Mrs Samoei said allegations of corruption in the national and county governments were alarming at a time when Kenyans should be seeing development.

The prayer rally was also attended by Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago and Assembly Speaker Isaac Terer, among other leaders.
