Ruto’s communication secretary carjacked

Police are investigating the carjacking of Deputy President William Rutto’s Head of Communication David Mugonyi on Tuesday night.

Mr Mugonyi told the police that he was entering his compound his Kilimani home situated along Dennis Pritt Road at around 10:30 pm when four people accosted him and forced him out of the driver’s seat.

Three members of the gang were armed with pistols

“They then entered the car, a Toyota Prado and drove it away with Mr Mugonyi inside. They headed towards Mombasa Road as they robbed him of his valuables,” Nairobi County Police Commandant, Benson Kibui said.

Mr Mugonyi was slightly injured during the attack and lost Sh120,000, two mobile phones, ATM cards and other personal effects.

He was later abandoned in Mlolongo where he found his way to the police station.

Police have begun investigations into the incident.

Mr Kibui says they are treating it as an ordinary carjacking incidence.

Cases of carjacking have been common in the city. Most of the carjacking victims with personal cars are waylaid as they are waiting for their gates to be opened.
