Kalenjin leaders blast Presidency over Mau resettlement

Bomet governor Isaac Ruto and Baringo senator Gideon Moi on Saturday criticized President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto allegedly of discriminating Mau evictees on resettlement.

The leaders who included Kanu Secretary General Mr Nick Salat and former Cabinet Minister Paul Sang said the Jubilee administration had promised to resettle the evictees and internally displaced persons in the first 100 days of their governance but reneged from it.

“The more than 500 evictees in Kiletien camp of Kuresoi North have been here for the past 10 years yet the government is not ready to resettle them,” Mr Moi said.

Mr Ruto and Mr Moi said young children and the elderly were dying in camps in,Narok, Bomet and Nakuru counties due to bad weather and petitioned the government to resettle the families immediately and save them the agony on being subjected to living in squalid conditions.

They were speaking at Sachangwan Secondary School in Kuresoi North of Nakuru County during the institution’s fundraiser.

Mr Moi said Kanu was not a spent force as other leaders would want Kenyans to believe.

“The Jubilee administration had only resettled IDPS and some kiosk owners alleged to have been displaced from their farms and we wonder why it left out the Mau evictees to continue suffering in the camps,” MR Ruto said.

GROWING ECONOMY

Mr Ruto wondered how the government expected to realize its targeted dream of growing the economy by a double digit when it was now ready to release more funds to the counties for the implementation of projects in various sectors.

Mr Salat criticized the DP allegedly of his continued condemnation of the former ruling party.

“If Ruto expects other leaders to respect him, the, he should also respect leaders holding divergent political views,” he said.

Kanu, he said, had made the DP to be what he is today and he should therefore desist from belittling the party.

“If DP Ruto was to present his CV on political career, Kanu will not miss out hence he should respect the party that nurtured him to be what he is today,” he remarked.

Mr Salat wondered why the DP had orchestrated smear campaigns against Kanu whereas leaders on “our side” were not mudslinging either URP or TNA.

“I took over from DP as the Kanu secretary and I wonder why he is belittling the party that made him who he is today,” Salat said.
