Ruto: Homosexuality has no place in Kenya
Deputy President William Ruto has said homosexuality has no place in the Kenyan society terming the practice as “unchristian”.
Speaking at a church service at the Africa Inland Church (AIC) Ziwani in Nairobi on Sunday, Ruto, who was reacting to the recent ruling by the United States Supreme Court that granted same sex marriages, also asked Kenyans to be ready to defend what they believe in.
“Homosexuality is against the plan of God, God did not create man and woman so that men would marry men and women marry women,” Ruto said.
“We have heard that in US they have allowed gay relations and other dirty things, I want to say as a Christian leader that we will defend our country Kenya, we will stand for our faith and our country,” he added.
SAME SEX MARRIAGES
He asked Christians and Muslims to stand and defend their faith and resist any attempts to legalise gay unions in the country.
“No amount of persuasions, theories or philosophy will make us change our position, we believe in God, this is a God fearing nation and will continue to be so,” said the DP.
Ruto’s sentiments comes just weeks before US President Barrack Obama’s visit to Kenya.
The DP is the second senior Government official, after National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale, to criticize same sex marriages in Kenya.
“We want to tell Obama that if one of the agendas of his visit is to push for the adoption of same sex marriage, we wont accept,” Duale was recently reported saying by the media.
