Ruto ally defends Itumbi and team fired from PSCU

A key ally of deputy president William Ruto has faulted State House for firing three directors attached to the disbanded Presidential Strategic Communications Unit.

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen threw his weight behind head of public communications Munyori Buku, chief of messaging at the Presidency Eric Ngeno and digital and diaspora communications manager Denis Itumbi and appeared surprised by the decision taken by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

UNSANCTIONED STATEMENTS

Branding and events head James Kinyua was also sent home, in a move that sources say was triggered by the four issuing unsanctioned statements attributed to the presidency.

Mr Murkomen is a key ally of Mr Ruto.

“I stand with Munyori Buku, Eric Ngeno & Denis Itumbi. They are true gentlemen. While the others were busy making money in the corporate world, these men were in the trenches with Uhuru and Ruto. I doubt the story of disbandment and if it’s true, then it’s a coup by the bad men against the good foot soldiers,” wrote the senator on his social media pages.

President Kenyatta, in a directive issued through State House deputy chief of staff Nzioka Waita, disbanded PSCU sending home all its directors.

Only State House spokesman Manoah Esipisu was spared.
