Rugby fans expected to spend Sh90 million at Safari Sevens

Rugby fans expected to spend up to Sh90 million this weekend at the Safari Sevens rugby tournament, in a shocking survey that highlights the debauchery among the game’s fans.

According to the survey, the average expenditure of a rugby fan in any match is Sh2,857. Over 50 per cent of fans spend over Shs2,000 per match.

Last year’s Safari Sevens tournament hosted between 35,000 to 40,000 fans.

Shockingly, most rugby fans are men who attend matches alone or are accompanied by their friends. Only a paltry 9 per cent are accompanied by their spouses or children.

The survey also indicates that rugby fans are educated and affluent. Over 56 per cent are aged below 30 years, while 26 per cent are aged between 30-39 years.

The survey was conducted among rugby fans who attended the Kenya vs Spain match in July and Kabeberi 7s in September 2015.
