By HILARY KIMUYU February 29th, 2016 1 min read

Two police officers and a civilian believed to be part of a gang were arrested by residents on Friday night and frogmarched to Shauri Moyo Police Station.

One of the policemen, Samuel Kariuki, is under interdiction from his Evergreen police post, while the other, Alex Kibwaro, has been away without official leave (AWOL) from his Runda posting.

The third suspect,  Meshak Okemo, works at the Ministry of Health.

The three were part of a six-man gang that was masquerading as Administration Police officers on patrol in Shauri Moyo. They were found with an old police radio.

“The three were arrested after a boda boda rider who was transporting a client on Friday night was arrested by the said people and when he refused to bribe them they started beating him. That is when other boda boda riders and night guards nearby demanded to know who they were,”  Buruburu DCIO Mr Jeremiah Ikao told Nairobi News.

The three suspects were arrested by the irate public, while their three other colleagues managed to escape.

Mr Ikao assured the residents that they will track and arrest the other members of the gang.

The two policemen and the civil servant were booked at Shauri Moyo Police Station and were later transferred and held at Buruburu police station.

On Monday, they were arraigned at the Makadara law courts.

The  court granted the police five days to finish their investigations.
