Gunmen attack Bangladesh High Commissioner’s home

Police are holding two Security guards in connection to a robbery at the house of the Bangladesh High Commissioner Wahidur Rahman in Karen on Saturday night.

The two guards from the Securex Security Company are suspected to have collaborated with four thugs to rob the High Commissioner in the 9:30pm incident.

Nairobi County Deputy Police Commandant, Moses Ombati said the diplomat was robbed of Sh 5,000 and USD 2,000, three mobile phones, a laptop, a TV set and other household goods.

“The High Commissioner, his wife and the two guards said the thugs were armed with pistols. The thugs ordered them to give up every valuable thing they had,” Mr Ombati said.

He said the thugs made away with the valuables without hurting anyone. The High Commissioner’s wife was however hospitalized for shock.

Police are questioning how the thugs managed to enter the compound that is otherwise under tight security.

“We suspect the guards must have been aware because otherwise, there must have been signs of the attackers forcefully gaining entry. Also 9:00pm was just too early for an attack,” Mr Ombati said.

He said police were looking for the gang that is suspected to be behind the recent attacks in posh residences in the city.

On Tuesday night, Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo was attacked at his house in Hardy in Karen. His attackers beat him and his wife before getting away with cash, jewelry, electronics and mobile phones.

The MP and his wife were hospitalized at the Nairobi Hospital for two days where they were treated for  head injuries and shock.
