Roads in city CBD to be closed for First Lady Half Marathon
A number of roads heading into, out of and around Nairobi’s CBD will be closed on Sunday morning to allow athletes to participate in the second edition of the First Lady Half Marathon.
However, according to the organizers the closure of the roads is not expected to affect so many road users because on Sundays not many pedestrians and motorists venture into town.
According to a draft schedule seen by Nairobi News, motorists and pedestrians using Mombasa Road, Uhuru Highway, Kenyatta Avenue, Processional Way, Cathedral Road, Ngong Road, Mbagathi Road, Langata Road, Aerodome Road and Lower Hill Road will have to seek alternate routes.
Specifically, the distance between Sameer Park and Lusaka road, Lusaka and Bunyala roundabouts, Uhuru Highway round about and Processional way, the areas between community road and City Mortuary, and T-Mall and Madaraka roundabout will be completely closed for the duration of this event and formally dedicated to the races.
This event is set to attract tens of thousands of participants, including the First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, plus a host of dignitaries and public figures.
All of proceeds from these race will be channeled towards improving the maternal healthcare in all counties in the country.
