Riddle of ex-City Hall staff worth Sh340m from Sh90k salary
A former accountant at City Hall has been given two weeks to explain the source of his wealth.
Mr Stephen Osiro and his wife Caroline Obwa on Monday asked the anti-corruption court for more time in order to file a defence.
They said their witnesses had not recorded any statements.
The Ethics and Anti- Corruption Commission through their lawyer told the court that the couple had accumulated Sh340 million in five years.
It said that at that time Mr Osiro’s salary was Sh 90,000 per month.
Mr Osiro hit news headlines mid last year when it emerged that he had deposited Sh 77 million in his child’s bank account. He had also wired Sh 53 million to his wife’s account.
In November last year, the court barred Mr Osiro from selling properties.
The case will be heard by Justice Hedwig Ong’undi on February 11, 2019.
