Chaos erupts after fake Returning Officer announces Lang’ata ODM ‘winner’

There was a scuffle at the ODM Lang’ata Constituency tallying centre in Nyayo Stadium on Monday morning after a man masquerading as the returning officer declared a winner despite the results of one ward having not been received.

The officer was chased out by enraged supporters of the other aspirants’ but not before issuing a nomination certificate to the “winner.”

One of the aspirants Ahmed Ibrahim aka Papa protested the issuance of a certificate before full results were received.

“To our surprise, at the constituency tallying centre, an alleged returning officer by the name of Eric Okoth came and declared results of three out of the five wards that we have, that is Karen, Mugumo-ini and Nairobi West,” said Papa.

“There was a dispute in South C and the results in Highrise were not coming but to the surprise of most of us, at about 4:30am this morning he issued a certificate to one aspirant Alex, who is a former MCA, and he made a way with it. So when we came in the morning and we saw the results coming in from Highrise the certificate had already been issued by a fraudulent officer,” he added.

The delay in receiving of the Nyayo Highrise Ward results has since been attributed to skirmishes that marred the nominations there.

It is believed that Okoth who issued the certificate was an imposter as Jeremiah Ayanga is the returning officer for the constituency. Mr Ayanga has advised the aspirants to take the matter up with the national election board.
