Residents protest closure of road in Makadara

Makadara area residents have protested at the closure of an access road linking Buruburu, County, Uhuru and Harambee estates.

They want the county government to demolish the wall and iron sheet structures built last year that are blocking the access road.

The wall and the structures are built in Pink court where the access road passes through

The residents argue that the structures pose a security risk in the area.

The residents are scheduled to meet Governor Evans Kidero on Wednesday to discuss the matter.

Speaking on behalf of the residents, Blamuel Njururi said efforts to demolish the structures and the wall have been futile.

They say the structures do not have toilets and have illegal electricity connections.

“These houses can host criminals and can be hired by terrorists to hide and manufacture explosives without detection in an estate that cannot be suspected to host terrorists,” read part of the residents’ write up to City Hall.

When contacted, County Chief Planning and Housing officer Mrs Rose Mwema attributed the stand-off to rivalry between two groups.

“These are two groups which are fighting, they both have issues which we are investigating. It is nothing big. It is only that it is being blown out of proportion” she said.
