Relief for motorists as petrol, diesel prices fall for the first time in months

Motorists can breathe a sigh of relief after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) on Wednesday announced a slash in the price of petrol and diesel.

The price of petrol has dropped by Sh2.86 to Sh112.53, while that of diesel dropped by Sh3.28 to Sh100.6.

However, EPRA has increased the price of kerosene by Sh1.98 to Sh103.95.

EPRA said the orice changes took into account the weighted average cost of imported refined petroleum products and the changes in the maximum allowed petroleum pump prices.

“The pump prices are inclusive of 8% Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2018 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 109 of 9th July 2019,” the authority said in a statement.

The new prices will take effect from August 15 to September 14, 2019.
