Kenyans on Twitter react to Babu Owino’s re-arrest
The continuous detention of youthful legislator Paul Ongili aka Babu Owino has fueled mixed reactions across the political divide and among citizens.
Opposition leader Raila Odinga on Wednesday described the MP’s re-arrest as “banditry and torture tactics.”
“We are concerned the state is resorting to prosecution, banditry and torture tactics where application and observation of the rule of law would suffice.”
Cotu Secretary General, Francis Atwoli, said Ongili’s woes were dictatorial and “resembles what we used to see during the Moi era.”
The trade Unionist posed: “What I am seeing is something dictatorial, probably meant to scare some people. It resembles what we witnessed during the Moi regime. How does one get released on bail, and then gets re-arrested immediately? Why not lump up all the claims and charge him at once?”
Nairobi governor Mike Sonko however went all out with a seemingly abusive remark about the arrested MP.
Ongili has been in detention since he was dramatically arrested on Monday evening. He would be charged in court on Tuesday with uttering defamatory words that are likely to fuel ethnic tensions within the country and released on bail.
It took him another 24 hours to be released on bail but then again he was dramatically re-arrested in commando style moments after his release in what seemed a well orchestrated move.
The legislator is expected back in court on Thursday.
I have today experienced the unthinkable! Blatant disregard of Court Orders for release of MP Babu by Govt whisking him away & hitting Advs

This being rearrested immediately after bail is classic KANU.
You might not like @Babu_Owino but what’s happening to him is an injustice.
