How Raila kept guests waiting at event for hours


Cord leader Raila Odinga kept guests waiting for him at function in Nairobi for more than two hours on Friday afternoon, Nairobi News understands.

It later emerged that the former Prime Minister was in Malindi, some 700km away, at the time distinguished guests, including Football Kenya Federation (FKF) chairman Nick Mwendwa, SportPesa CEO Ronald Karauri and Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier were waiting for him at a Nairobi hotel for the function.

Mr Odinga was the chief guest at the event where the Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia unveiled a five-year sponsorship deal with SportPesa estimated to be worth Sh60 million annually.

ODM CAMPAIGN

The function however formally commenced at 2pm more than two hours after the scheduled time.

It is believed the Cord leader was at the Coast spearheading campaign for the ODM candidate in the forthcoming Malindi constituency by-election.

He would later board a commercial flight for the hour long journey to Nairobi, before taking a 30 minute road trip to the venue of the event.

According to sources, Mr Odinga’s delay compelled the event organisers to folk out extra cash to cover to cater for cost of hiring the venue past the scheduled time.
