Raila alludes to ‘Super Alliance’ talks with Mudavadi

Opposition leader Raila Odinga has admitted to holding unity talks with former Vice President Musalia Mudavadi.

Speaking Tuesday, the Cord co-principal also confirmed the opposition is also engaging “a lot of people” with a view of strengthening itself ahead of next year’s General Elections.

“Yes we have been talking to my brother Musalia. Very soon, you will also see us talking to a lot of other people. The man aim is simple, to send home the Jubilee administration,” Odinga said.

The former Prime Minister’s sentiments come two days after Mudavadi confirmed during a tour of the Coast region this past weekend, that his Amani National Congress (ANC) was in talks with a number of opposition parties with an aim of forming a “Super Alliance” heading into the elections.

Mudavadi also dismissed overtures from Deputy President William Ruto to join Jubilee, saying he was “not naïve”.

ODM FALL OUT

A political reunion between Odinga and Mudavadi could offer a classic throwback. The two opposition politicians have worked together in the past.

During the Grand coalition government when Mr Odinga was the Prime Minister, Mr Mudavadi served as one of his deputies.

The duo however fell out on the eve of the 2013 general elections following a disagreement on the formula to pick the presidential candidate who would fly the ODM flag.

Ahead of the impending arrival of Mudavadi, the Cord alliance currently consists of Wiper Democratic Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Ford Kenya boss Moses Wetangula.

These two, alongside Odinga, are gunning for the sole Cord presidential ticket to face Jubilee Party’s President Uhuru Kenyatta in the general elections.
