Probe Atwoli for Muchai’s death, says MP

February 8th, 2015 1 min read

Central Organization of Trade Unions boss Francis Atwoli should be probed over the death of Kabete MP George Muchai and three aides, a legislator has said.

Kiambu County Woman Representative Ann Nyokabi said the execution of the MP and the fact that he had a bitter dispute with the Cotu boss raises eyebrows.

“Whereas Mr. Atwoli needs to clear his name, the security agents should summon him because the MP had reported that his life was in danger at the height of the differences between the two,” Nyokabi told reporters in Gatundu.

The legislator was murdered alongside his driver and two bodyguards in cold blood in Nairobi on Saturday morning.

Ms Nyokabi said the deceased who was Atwoli’s deputy had a case against the Cotu leadership and the killing may have been hatched “to conceal evidence.”

Similar sentiments were expressed by Gatanga MP Humphrey Njuguna who said the assassination of Mr. Muchai, his two bodyguards and driver sent shivers to MPs and Kenyans in general.

“This was a very daring and well planned act. We need through investigations and the killers must be brought to book,” he said and recalled that the MP had recorded a statement over the threat to his life.

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and his Juja counterpart Francis Munyua also said they were deeply shocked and saddened by the killings.
