Why Pope Francis wants everyone to pray at 2pm today

Pope Francis has appealed to everyone in the world to say a prayer for peace at 1pm Rome time which will be 2pm in Kenya.

This is part of the “One Minute for Peace” initiative which was initiated back in 2014 when the Pope along with the late Israeli President Shimon Peres, and the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas prayed for peace.

The three held their prayers after a short meeting in the Vatican Gardens on June 8 2014.

The Pope told Vatican Radio, “In our days, there is a great need to pray – Christians, Jews, and Muslims – for peace.”

TERROR ATTACKS

Pope Francis made the announcement after his Wednesday General Audience in St Peter’s Square.

The recent terror attacks have left many dead and others injured prompting more countries to deliberate on peace and anti-terrorism.

An attack at London Bridge on Saturday left eight people dead after a van hit pedestrians on London Bridge at about 10pm on Saturday then three men got out and attacked people in nearby Borough Market.

On May 22, 22 people were killed and 116 injured in a suicide bombing after Salman Abedi, 22, detonated a home-made bomb at Manchester Arena after a performance by US singer Ariana Grande.
