Why politics will take a back seat for Ruto this Christmas

It has been a grueling year for the Deputy President who has spent the better part of it defending the Jubilee Alliance against an onslaught from a resurgent Opposition and pleading his innocence at the International Criminal Court.
The DP has also been involved in a war of words with Cord co-principal Raila Odinga over the Eurobond saga, and other corruption accusations leveled against him.
But with the fight for political supremacy expected to take a break this week, the Deputy President and his family will retire to their Sugow home just like last year.
POLITICAL TEMPERATURES
“Christmas sio ya siasa (The Christmas season is not about politics),” said David Mugonyi, the Deputy President’s spokesman.
“The Deputy President will be home with family, friends and neighbours. He will attend Christmas festivities there as well,” he said.
This, apart from giving them time to cool off from high political temperatures, will give their latest addition, baby Nadia Cherono, a chance to visit the rural home of her new family. The girl was adopted by the Rutos from Madre Ippolita Children’s Home in Ndithini, Machakos County, and named after the DP’s mother.
Mr Ruto’s family has been known to be philanthropic during festive seasons and last year donated foodstuffs to the Eldoret Children’s Rescue Centre.
