Police warns public of racketeers prowling Nairobi streets

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the National Police Service have warned members of public to be wary of a team of racketeers who are on the prowl in the city’s CBD.

According to the police, the racketeers mostly operate along Moi Avenue preying on unsuspecting victims.

“We caution all members of the public to remain vigilant and inform us in case they sight the suspects anywhere,” the police have warned.

This caution comes after the criminal ring’s suspected leader, John Ng’ethe Mwaura and a suspected accomplice were arrested on Wednesday.

ASSAULTING POLICE OFFICER

“Following a tip off from a member of the public, our officers managed to arrest Mwaura’s accomplice one, Peter Gitau Kibe with whom they run the racket together. He will be arraigned in court tomorrow,” said the police.

The suspected was initially arrested early this year and charged for assaulting a police officer and maliciously damaging his property.

Mwaura, who also identifies himself as an overseer of the Christ Love International Ministry, and his accomplices have been linked to extorting unsuspecting members of the public in the pretext of selling them coupons with redeemable prizes.
