A cell phone recovered from a suspect who might have been shot accidentally by his accomplices led to the arrest of four others on Sunday.

The incident happened on Monday last week where a man was shot dead and his wife and house girl seriously injured at their Nairobi home.

The suspects were arrested in Huruma, Nairobi.

Several rounds of ammunition and military uniform were recovered. The bullets are similar to those used during the attack. Police said one of the suspects is a former soldier.

SCENE OF CRIME

Police spokesperson Zipporah Mboroki said a mobile phone, documents recovered from the suspect and spent cartridges provided them with crucial leads.

A suspect identified as Julius Musee, 42, was found at the scene of crime in Ruai with a bullet wound in the head. Police believe he might have been shot by his colleagues by mistake.

Police said the suspects met on Monday in Huruma and had drinks at a bar owned by Mr Musee’s girlfriend.

They left around 6pm to Ruai where they attacked the family of Mr Alex Kiambati who they shot dead.

Mr Musee was left at the scene with a wound on the head. His colleagues made several calls to his phone. His girlfriend also made several calls to his phone.

Police officers rushed to the scene and took Mr Kiambati’s wife, housekeeper and the injured suspect to the hospital. The suspect later died.

SEVERAL CALLS

With the help of mobile service providers, detectives traced the owner the number that made several calls to the suspect’s phone after the 8pm incident as well as the woman who kept on inquiring about his whereabouts. The woman was arrested in Matuu.

This shooting happened when the late Kiambati called a Mr Julius Gathuka to deliver gas. Mr Gathuka said as he entered the victims’ home, two men followed him and brandished pistols.

The gunmen robbed the family before unleashing fire on them.
