Police to use motorbikes to patrol slums

Police have started using motorcycles to patrol slum areas in crackdown on runaway crime in informal settlements.

“Incidents of robberies are rampant in the slums and to curb these vices we have started patrolling the areas with motorbikes, since motorbike’s can easily pursue and penetrate the slum areas with ease,” said Director of Operations at the Nairobi Provincial Police Office Wilfred Mbithi.

Mr Mbithi urged city residents to work closely with police units in their areas to eradicate crime.

He said it is vital for the public to provide information of criminal activities in their communities to  enable police apprehend criminals before committing crimes.

He also warned city residents of the rising trend of  carjacking of public service vehicle.

“These criminals  dress decently  but with the intention of  stealing, Githurai and Eastleigh bus terminals are the most notorious in such crimes. I am optimistic that we will soon nab these criminals and flush them from their hide outs,” said Mr Mbithi.

Early this month Governor Evans Kidero donated motorbikes to Kibera Police for Patrols in slums.
