Police shot dead two, recover firearm

Police early Sunday morning shot and killed two suspected thugs in separate incidents in Nairobi and recovered a toy pistol, a Ceska pistol and five bullets.

The first suspect was gunned down in Dandora phase five where he and 11 others were robbing businessmen at around 3:30am.

Nairobi County Deputy Police Commandant Moses Ombati said the 12 were members of a gang that has been robbing businessmen who rise early go to the market.

“They have been targeting them because they know that as they are going to the market, they usually carry large amounts of money” Mr Ombati said.

The businessmen had earlier tipped the police about the gang’s menace.

“The police officers laid an ambush. When the gang was asked to surrender one of them who had a toy pistol tried to attack the officers and he was shot and the toy pistol was recovered. The police arrested one suspect, but 10 others escaped,” Mr Ombati said.

In another incident in Ngong,  police shot an armed robber who had refused to surrender.

Police had been tipped by the public about the robber who was spotted threatening businessmen with a gun in Ngong town.

Police officers on patrol tracked the suspect and arrested him. But as they were trying to disarm him, he drew a pistol and fired at one of the officers.

“The police reiterated and fatally injured him. A Ceska Pistol loaded with five bullets was recovered from the suspect who also had an assortment of mobile phones and cash suspected to have been stolen from his victims” Mr Ombati said.

The man succumbed to injuries.
