Police shot dead three men in Nairobi’s Adams Arcade area on Wednesday.

The men were riding on a motor cycle and police were chasing them in a car, according to witnesses.

Nairobi police chief Benson Kibui identified the victims as gangsters saying they had committed several robberies in the city.

Two guns and rounds of ammunition were found on them, according to the police.

Total war

“We have declared total war on armed criminals and we are not going to compromise, and especially during the festive season when we have increased surveillance,” he added.

Another police officer who cannot be identified because he was not authorised to speak to journalists told the Nation that they had been identified by a motorist who alerted police officers.

A day before, four men were gunned down by police in the city’s Thome area. An AK-47 rifle was recovered.

Police said the four were killed after they disobeyed officers from the Special Crime Prevention Unit who had ordered them to stop after trailing them and instead shot at the officers.
