Police protecting man out to kill me, claims Nairobi MP

Dagoreti North MP Simba Arati claims the government is protecting an individual who is out to kill him.

The ODM lawmaker on Saturday said the wealthy businessman of Asian extraction cannot be brought to justice since he enjoys protection from the police.

“I gave the head of the Directorate of Criminal Investigation information about this guy and even the Director of Public Prosecution has the dossier but nothing appears to be happening,” Arati said.

The lawmaker further alleges that a senior government official recently called to advise him to give the man a piece of land in his constituency to “appease him”.

SIGNIFICANT INFLUENCE

“To clearly show the kind of people he hangs out with, a fellow who wields significant influence in government called asking me to give him land as ‘a sign of goodwill’,” Mr Arati told Nairobi News.

The MP added that should anything happen to him, the person whom he says is well known to government should be held responsible. Last week, the MP reported that a suspicious car had been trailing him.

The issue of MPs’ security has come under sharp focus after Kabete lawmaker George Muchai was killed last weekend in a brazen attack by unknown assailants in Nairobi.

In response, plans are said to be afoot to beef up security for the lawmakers.
