Police officers in court for murder, robbery with violence


Two female police officers have been charged with murder and robbery with violence respectively in the last one week.

At least five other police officers and a Kenya Air Force soldier have also been arrested for various offences over the same period.

On Saturday, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested Constable Mary Muthoni Kimani, who is attached to Molongo Police Station, after she was implicated in a robbery involving Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) employees.

Investigations revealed that on January 4 at around 11.45am, at Reliance building opposite Governor’s Hotel the suspect together with two other men armed with a Ceska pistol robbed Ms Eunice Kalekye Mutuku.

Ms Mutuku and two Chinese nationals were driving towards Syokimau when they were blocked by the three, driving in a white Toyota Probox.

They identified themselves as police officers and ordered Ms Mutuku to produce her driving licence. In the process, one of them opened the car and grabbed two bags containing an unknown amount of cash.

MURDER SUSPECTED

They then ordered the victim to drive towards Syokimau and later alighted and took a motorcycle to an unknown destination.

They also injured their victims and robbed them of their mobile phones and driving licences. Detectives later raided the officers house and recovered a total of Sh 135,000, a mobile phone and four SIM cards.

On Thursday last week, a Constable attached to the Diplomatic Police Unit (DPU) was also arrested in connection to the murder of Mr Johnson Mbugua Njenga.

The officer had last year absconded duty and went to a club in Umoja with her boyfriend where they quarreled with another motorist at the parking. They allegedly hit the man who later died.

Last week on Thursday, AP Constable Elijah Wambua attached to Nandi Hill Sub County was also arrested after he threatened to shoot revelers at Jacaranda bar within the town.

After getting drunk, the officer quarreled with one of the customers and he left the bar, locked it from outside and went to the camp and armed himself with a G3 rifle.

LOST FIREARM

Police records also indicate that another Constable Jonathan Naipakwe attached to DCI Airport was arrested on Sunday after the threatened to shoot Mr Abel Nyangweso in Tassia near Rehema Hospital.

He was disarmed and the firearm, a Taurus revolver loaded with 5 rounds of ammunition, kept as an exhibit. An inquiry file has been opened.

An on Sunday, an officer based at the Langata Police Station was arrested after he lost his firearm under unclear circumstances. Constable Leonard Kobia reported that he went to drop off a friend in Pipeline estate Embakasi using his personal car.

On arrival, they both alighted and he escorted him on foot to the house. When he came back, he found the car broken into and the firearm, a Ceska pistol loaded with 14 rounds of ammunition, stolen. Unknown people had smashed the driver’s window and stole the firearm which had been kept under the seat.

Members of the other security agencies have also been arrested. A Kenya Air Force soldier was on Friday arrested in Kwale after he attacked police officers.

Administration Police officers said that they went to Katundani village to arrest a suspect at his home but they were attacked and disarmed by Corporal Nzaphilla Makalla of Moi Air Base, Eastleigh. The two were later charged in court.
