Police officer under probe after shooting incident

A police officer attached to the Wilson Airport is under investigation after he shot and injured a motorist in the leg at the airport.

The General Service Unit officer is said to have shot David Muchiri, 30, on his left leg after an altercation that ensued between them at the airport shortly after midday on Thursday.

In a report he submitted to the Langata Police Station, the officer stated that as he was at the watchtower of the airport at 1pm, he and other colleagues spotted a suspicious car that had no number plates.

“We stopped it and started interrogating the occupants when one of the suspects ran away with the ignition key,” the officer said.

The officer claimed that as he was searching the other two remaining suspects, one of them who was later identified as David Muchiri removed a dagger and attacked the officers.

SHOT IN THE AIR

He claimed that the suspect cut the wooden hand guard of the AK 47 rifle of serial number 18215104 that the officer was carrying.

The officer stated that he shot in the air but the suspect kept being aggressive and so he shot him on the leg.

Senior police officers at the Police headquarters are however investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting after Mr Muchiri’s companion claimed that the officer shot at him after they refused to bribe the officers.

Mr Josiah Mwenda Mugania who is being held at the Langata Police after the incidence is being interrogate following the incidence.
