Police net cache of firearms in city house

Police on Friday found 10 guns, more than 2,000 rounds of ammunition and suspected narcotics in the houses of two men believed to be traffickers.

The two Indians were arrested in Loresho, where drugs were found, while the firearms were in a house in Eastlands.

Acting on a tip-off, Anti-Narcotics Unit detectives raided the house of Mr Zahid Iqbal Akberali Alarakyai, 34, in Loresho’s Mukabi Estate around 6.30am.

They said they found four bars of suspected hashish. Another man, identified as Mr Rehan Kantilal Shah, 44, was also arrested.

IN CUSTODY

Upon being questioned, Mr Shah led the officers to Jana Estate on Jogoo Road, where they found 10 guns and 2,032 rounds of ammunition. It was not immediately established how he acquired them.

Unit Commandant Hamisi Massa told the Daily Nation that preliminary investigations indicated the guns belonged to Mr Shah.

“We are still investigating and cannot divulge much information,” Dr Massa said.

Mr Shah was placed in custody at Parklands Police Station while Mr Alarakyai was booked at Muthaiga Police Station.
