Police gun down four suspects in city

Four suspected gangsters were on Saturday shot dead by police outside Guru Nanak Hospital in Nairobi after being trailed from Kinoo where they had broken into a house and stolen household goods.

The vehicle which they used to get away was tracked to the Thika Superhighway, where they were sprayed with bullets while inside their car.

A pistol with five rounds of ammunition, a gas cylinder and a music system were some of the items recovered from the car. Police are yet to establish the owner of the vehicle.

Starehe police boss Barasa Wabomba said police were alerted by a neighbour who witnessed the robbery from a window, and gave police the registration number.

“A neighbour spotted the suspects loading household goods to the car and alerted the owner, who was away at the time, and police,” he said.

He said the suspects fired at the unmarked police car, after they realised they were being trailed and police were forced to fight back.

The gangsters’ bullet riddled bodies lay on the tarmac and disrupted traffic along the superhighway on Saturday afternoon.
