Police foil Rongai robbery, recover home-made gun

Police in Ongata Rongai thwarted a robbery attack and recovered a home-made gun in Oakwood Apartments near Laiser Hill Academy.

The officers were responding to a distress call after four suspected criminals attacked a man who was entering his compound at around 2.30 a.m. on Wednesday.

“The man was driving a Nissan. They confronted him as he was entering the compound,  took control of the vehicle and drove it outside the compound,” said OCPD Ongata Rongai Silas Ringera.

Police caught up with the robbers as they were taking mobile phones from the victim.

“When the suspects saw the police they fired one shot from a home-made gun,” said the OCPD.

One of the robbers was wounded after he got entangled in the barbed wire running over the security wall as he tried to escape.

“Two suspects escaped. We found one who had been severely injured by police and the barbed wire lying in the next compound,” said Mr Ringera.

Police took the man to Kenyatta National Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The officers are still searching for the other two who are still at large.
