Police clear sex workers from Thika ahead of inter-county games

Police officers flashed out commercial sex workers operating within Thika town ahead of the inter-county games.

Police arrested 26 commercial sex, among them women and underage girls, involved in the business in the town.

The operation was aimed at improving security ahead of the Kenya Inter county Sports and Culture Association Games (KICOSCA) set to kick off on Monday.

Thika division OCPD Erastus Muthamia said the twilight girls have been working in cahoots with criminal gangs to rob residents in the evenings.

“We did our investigations after Thika business people complained to us about the increase in crime in the town and realised that the twilight girls have been working in partnership with criminals to commit crime in the town,” said Muthamia.

“We shall continue with the swoop with an aim of wiping out those who might have come back to ensure that visitors who come to Thika for the inter-county games enjoy a safe stay in Thika,” he added.

Mr Muthamia however noted that the operation is aimed in the long run at freeing Thika off commercial workers.

About 5,000 visitors are expected in Thika for the week-long games slated for between August 14 and 28 at Thika stadium.

Prior to the swoop, Thika Deputy County Commissioner Tom Anjere chaired several security meetings attended by bar and restaurant owners and stakeholders in the transport sector.

Kiambu Governor William Kabogo handed the Kenyan flag to the Kiambu team on Thursday at Thika stadium.
